Human resources management for managers

This book puts the student in the shoes of an entry-level manager, and not those of a professional HR expert, therefore targeting a much wider audience. It presents situations encountered in a variety of settings: start-ups, SMEs, unionized workplaces, government agencies, multinationals, etc. It gives students tools they can use in the working world.

3 solutions to students’ needs

A book centered on the manager’s role

The manual outlines the best practices to use for recruitment, performance management, competency development and employee mobilisation. Chapter content is summarized in the “At a Glance” sections that recap critical knowledge, manager’s responsibilities, tools to use and pitfalls to avoid.

Tools for dealing with challenging, real-life situations
The “Toolbox” sections provide students with practical information they can use to manage difficult day-to-day situations, both from a social as well as a legal, administrative or psychological perspective.

An applicable, practical book
All theoretical notions are introduced via case studies, and are supported with working examples. At the end of each chapter, students must put themselves in the shoes of a manager and answer questions related to the case studies, encouraging them to apply their newly-acquired knowledge.
