Pearson Canada Privacy Statement has changed. Pearson Canada now use cookies for accessibility and personalization when you browse Pearson Canada Web Sites, as outlined in more detail in the “Cookies” section of Pearson Canada Privacy Statement. Pearson Canada have also made changes to the second last paragraph under, “What personal information shall be collected by Pearson Canada?” to address changes to Pearson Canada use of service providers located outside of Canada.


This Privacy Statement applies to Pearson Canada Inc., member of the Pearson family, or to subsidiaries, affiliates or assigns of Pearson Canada (hereinafter collectively designated “Pearson Canada”) in the course of its business in Canada. This Privacy Statement is designed to tell individuals with whom Pearson Canada may interact in the course of its business in Canada as well as other who purchase its products, about its practices regarding collection, use and disclosure of their personal information, including information provided over the telephone, by mail or facsimile and via Pearson Canada’s digital platform including web sites hosted under the following domains:, and (hereinafter referred to as the “digital platforms”). This Privacy Statement does not apply to personal information about Pearson Canada’s employees or information that is not personal information.

What personal information shall be collected by Pearson Canada?

Pearson Canada collects personal information from you that you provide voluntarily. Such personal information may include personal contact information, such as your name, address, and telephone number; your personally identifiable comments/questions about Pearson Canada’s products and services and information required to order Pearson Canada’s products and services (including your credit card information.)

Pearson Canada collects personal information about its guests and visitors. Specifically, visitors to Pearson Canada’s offices may be asked to provide their name, telephone number, and organization name. Pearson Canada collects this personal information for premises security and disaster preparedness purposes. Pearson Canada may also install video cameras in certain areas on its premises and shall post signs notifying individuals of the existence and purpose of any such cameras.

In some cases, Pearson Canada may collect information about you that is not personal information. Examples of this type of information include the type of web browser and the type of computer operating system you are using and the domain name of the digital platform. If that material is not linked to other information that is personal information about you, the non-personal information is not subject to Pearson Canada’s Privacy Policy.

If Pearson Canada obtains personal information about you from third parties, for example to send promotional mailings, Pearson Canada shall seek assurances that this third party has received your consent to provide such information.

In addition, please remember that any personal information that is voluntarily posted to any public area of the digital platform - such as a chat room - may always be accessible to other visitors and that there is nothing Pearson Canada can do to prevent collection, use or disclosure of this information by those visitors.

If you apply for a position at Pearson Canada, Pearson Canada shall collect the personal information contained in, and generated in relation to, your application, in order to evaluate your application and assess whether to offer you a position. For candidates who are not offered or do not accept a position, Pearson Canada normally retains this information for a reasonable time, in the event that an appropriate position becomes available or that you re-apply, unless you ask Pearson Canada not to retain this information and there is no legal requirements that oblige Pearson Canada to do so. If you accept a position at Pearson Canada, the information shall be retained in accordance with the privacy procedures applicable to the personal information of Pearson Canada’s employees.

Pearson Canada shall use and disclose your personal information for the following purposes:

  9. as permitted or required by law; to enforce the Terms of Use and Terms of Sale and other agreements; and
  10. for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

Pearson Canada sometimes transfer personal information to others, including to affiliated entities or unrelated companies (“service providers”), that carry out certain functions on Pearson Canada behalf such as order fulfillment, accounts receivable and data processing. In those cases Pearson Canada require those service providers not to use or disclose your personal information for any purpose other than as directed by Pearson. Some of these service providers may be located outside of Canada, including in the United States, the United Kingdom and India, and your personal information may be collected, used, disclosed, stored and processed in those jurisdictions for the purposes described in this Privacy Statement. Pearson Canada take reasonable contractual or other measures to protect your personal information while processed or handled by these service providers. If your personal information is located outside Canada it will be subject to legal requirements in those foreign countries applicable to Pearson Canada service providers, for example, lawful requirements to disclose personal information to government authorities in those countries.

Your personal information may be used by Pearson Canada and shared with others connected with the contemplated or actual financing, insuring, sale, assignment or other disposal of all or part of Pearson Canada’s business or assets, including for the purposes of permitting such parties to determine whether to proceed with such transaction or business relationship, or to fulfill any disclosure obligations Pearson Canada have to such parties. If Pearson Canada does sell or assign all or part of its business, the purchaser or assignee shall be able to use and disclose personal information to the same extent, under the same conditions and for substantially the same purposes as Pearson Canada, as described in this Privacy Statement.

Your consent

Your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information may be given in various ways. Consent can be express (express consent may be oral, in writing or electronic), implied (such as when you provide your name and address in order to receive the products you have ordered or the information you have requested) and in some jurisdictions may be given by your authorized representative (such as a legal guardian or a person having a power of attorney). Generally, if you provide Pearson Canada with your personal information, Pearson Canada shall assume that you consent to the collection, use and disclosure by Pearson Canada of such information as described in this Privacy Statement, if applicable, or otherwise as indicated at the time of collection.

Collection, use or disclosure without your consent

In certain limited circumstances the collection, use or disclosure by Pearson Canada of your personal information without your consent is permitted or required by law, for example, to collect a debt you owe to Pearson Canada or to comply with a subpoena or court order.

What if I do not want my personal information collected, used or disclosed?

If you do not want your personal information collected, used or disclosed by Pearson Canada, please do one of the following: 1) follow the procedures, where available, indicated at the point of collection such as to “opt out” from the particular purposes of use and disclosure, or 2) if no “opt out” is available, do not submit personal information to us. If you have submitted personal information and later wish to withdraw your consent to its retention, use or disclosure, please contact Pearson Canada as indicated below. You may withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice.

Please understand that without your consent Pearson Canada may not be able to provide certain goods or services to you. For example, if you do not provide consent to collect and use personal information necessary to process an order that you wish to place, or if you withdraw your consent to uses that are necessary to fulfill your request, Pearson Canada may not be able to process your order or to supply those products to you. Pearson Canada shall endeavour to advise you if this should happen.


Pearson Canada shall protect your personal information using physical, electronic or managerial procedures designed to protect the integrity, security and appropriate use of your personal information and to prevent theft, loss, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. Authorized employees, agents and mandataries of Pearson Canada who require the personal information shall be allowed to access it to fulfill the purposes for which the information was collected and the purposes disclosed in the above section entitled “Use and disclosure of the personal information collected by Pearson Canada”.

Pearson Canada shall retain your personal information as required for these purposes, subject to reasonable legal limitation periods and statutory or regulatory retention requirements and Pearson Canada’s document retention policies.

Although Pearson Canada have enacted security measures for its digital platform, Pearson Canada cannot guarantee the absolute security of its digital platform or the security of information that you submit to it (or that Pearson Canada sends you) over the internet, since no internet transmission is ever 100% secure or error-free. Your use of the web and electronic mail is at your own risk. You should take special care in deciding what information you send to Pearson Canada via e-mail or posting on the Pearson Canada’s digital platform.
