Copy editor – K-12

Occasionally, we need talented copy editors for printed and digital educational materials in many domains. Once you submit your CV, you will appear in the human resources database, which is consulted regularly by our staff to meet their copy editing needs.

General responsibilities

  • Monitor the language quality, uniformity and coherence of the visual presentation (legends, footnotes, tables, graphs, format of titles and subtitles) of the text or translation to ensure they meet the division’s standards
  • Work with the project editor or project lead to ensure that the project runs smoothly
  • If needed, ask the project editor to communicate with authors or adapters to adjust their revisions
  • Respect the given deadlines
  • If needed, for large projects, work with other copy editors to ensure that the document remains uniform
  • You must have an excellent knowledge of geographic and Native names

Desired skills

  • Undergraduate education in copy editing, translation or another relevant field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in revision of training manuals, academic texts, or textbooks
  • Knowledge of the subject of the text is desirable
  • Exceptional, technical and stylistic knowledge of written English Ability to reformulate writing for fluidity
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and Canadian spelling
  • Proven judgment and ability to understand fairly technical texts
  • For translations needing revision, excellent understanding of written French
  • Sense of organization and thoroughness
  • Strong knowledge of general software (MS Office suite, Acrobat DC), particularly the “track changes” function.
  • Knowledge of MEES programs an asset
